Art education provides students an opportunity to create, invent, and talk about creativity. In my curricula and art class, I focus on students having a choice, making connections to the community and world, as well as support for individual growth. Using differentiated instruction and adaptable teaching techniques I engage students individual creativity. My classroom climate is one that builds on cross-curricular experiences by connecting students, teachers, and the community.
Art education covers a wide range of art information, including: a basic understanding of Color Theory, the Principles of Art, Elements of Art, how to use different mediums and their proper techniques, and art history. Art history gives students a look at art from a worldly perspective. It explains the history of ancient civilizations, shows how art defines every civilized society, and expresses their various cultures. A multicultural curriculum will educate students about different values, beliefs and cultures, teaching students respect for each others differences. Art that is being created today is a reflection of our culture and students enter into the world of creating their own ‘art of today’. As a community of learners students will be discovering, creating, and learning new things.
Most importantly, art class is a safe environment where a student can express themselves without fear. Art class is not only a time to explore new and exciting mediums - it is a time to be yourself, find yourself, create yourself. Here is where passions are ignited and explored. Through innovative art lessons, guest speakers and field trips students are praised for their unique, individual, self-expressions.
